A. F. Sitaru, historical fiction author and creator of the Related to Dracula series

about the author

I was born in Romania, the homeland of Vlad the Impaler, where history is woven into everyday life. Long before I became a novelist, I was captivated by the stories of the past—especially those surrounding Vlad Dracula and Anne Boleyn, two figures whose lives continue to inspire and intrigue me.

My love of history began in childhood, but it wasn’t confined to books. I spent many summers with my grandparents in a remote Romanian village, where life followed traditions that had changed little over generations. There I learned to fish, ride horses, work the land, care for animals, and find my way through forests without a compass. Those experiences gave me a lasting appreciation for a simpler way of life and helped me imagine the world as it might have been centuries ago.

My journey

Although I have spent most of my life in the United Kingdom, my fascination with Romanian history has never faded. Instead, it grew alongside a deep interest in Tudor England, another period filled with remarkable personalities, political intrigue, and stories that deserve to be told.

Research soon became more than a hobby. Whether exploring medieval chronicles, historical records, or archaeological discoveries, I found myself constantly searching for the people behind the events—the individuals whose lives shaped history but are often overlooked.

Why I write Historical Fiction

History tells us what happened, but fiction allows us to experience it.

I don’t write to rewrite history. I write to bridge the gap between historical fact and human experience, combining meticulous research with storytelling to bring the past to life. Every novel begins with real events, real places, and real people before imagination fills the spaces history has left behind.

The Related to Dracula series brings together the two historical worlds that have fascinated me since childhood—Romania and Tudor England—exploring the legends, politics, and personalities that connect them across centuries.

explore my work

Whether through historical fiction, documentaries, or historical research, my goal has always been the same: to bring the past to life and encourage others to look beyond the legends. Every book, article, and documentary begins with the same question—what really happened? I invite you to explore the stories and discover the history behind them.
